MOHAMMEDAN SC EASE PAST SOUTHERN SAMITY

KOLKATA: Mohammedan Sporting Club eased past Southern Samity 3-0 to register their second win in the Calcutta Premier Division – A on Sunday at Barasat Stadium.

Winger Sheikh Faiaz (21st and 56th minute) scored in either halves before striker Jiten Murmu (90th) found the target late in the game to complete yet another convincing win for the Black Panthers which took their tally to 6 points from 3 games.

Going into the game, the Black Panthers coach Biswajit Bhattacharya fielded an unchanged side from the previous match.

Mohammedan SC jumped into a great start and orchestrated many moves but missed goal-scoring opportunities whenever they approached Southern Samity’s final third in the opening quarter.

Having missed a host of chances till the 20th minute mark, Mohammedan SC finally broke the deadlock after some good team work. A switch in play from left-to-right saw Dipanda Dicka find Jiten who cut back to Faiaz inside the box and the winger delivered a cool finish to set the tone for the game.

The goal gave Mohammedan SC a much needed boost as they pushed ahead in numbers and created a host of chances only to lack the killer finish in the final third.

In the closing moments of the half, Dipanda had a chance to double the lead, but he hammered his effort wide as the first half ended 1-0.

Mohammedan SC began the second half brightly like they did the first, with a goal beckoning with every move and after 11 minutes of play, Faiaz consolidated Mohammedan SC’s lead. Dipendu Dowary away from two defenders on the right flank, picked out Faiaz to head past Southern Samity keeper Sheikh Moidul Islam from close range.

Thereafter, Mohammedan SC continued to dominate the proceedings but had to wait till the last minute of the regulation time to get their third. Mumtaz Akhtar with a brilliant run got past his marker and laid the ball for Prohlad Roy who set up Jiten to slot home.
