BLACK PANTHERS REDAY FOR ‘WOUNDED’ PEERLESS

KOLKATA: Mohammedan Sporting Club are hoping that their strong attack will be enough to register their third successive win in the Calcutta Premier Division – A as they face Peerless Sports Club at Barasat Stadium.

The Black Panthers have 6 points from 3 games and coach Biswajit Bhattacharya feels it’s important to maintain consistency as matches come thick and fast.

There will not be any easy games in CFL as the difference between all teams is minimal. With two victories under his belt, coach Bhattacharya will be bristling with confidence but knows that Peerless SC can provide them with the toughest challenge so far.

“It will be an important match for us. We won successive matches but we have to lie low and think nothing happened. We just have to focus on the next match and continue to do our best in the future. In such a league, you have to stay alert. There is not much time to celebrate or cry. You have to be competitive always,” said coach Bhattacharya.

Peerless SC started with a flourish winning their first two matches but were grounded by East Bengal in the last match. The Black Panthers will start as favourites against a wounded Peerless SC, although the gaffer looked at the situation differently.

“Now obviously it’s a difficult moment for Peerless because they lost their last match against a good opposition. But they are more than capable of a comeback. We have to be cautious against them and remain solid and compact,” he added.

Interestingly, Peerless SC has as many seven players in the their side who plied there trade in Mohammedan SC last season, and their coach Tope Ayodeji Fuja, who himself coached the Black Panthers twice in the past, will be hoping them to fire against their former employer.

Going into the game, coach Bhattacharya feels no need to change a winning combination, especially after a convincing 3-0 win against Southern Samity. The team looked incredibly good in their last two fixtures but coach Bhattacharya is keeping his feet firmly on the ground.

The last time when these two teams faced off in CFL, the match ended goalless despite Mohammedan SC dominated proceedings for the majority of the match. Thus, the Black Panthers keen to make amends in their next meeting on Saturday.

A win for Mohammedan SC will ensure they are within close distance of the first two teams while Peerless SC also have a chance to be among the top three teams should they pull of the upset against a side, who they last defeated in 2004.

The match in Barasat Stadium kicks off at 6.30 PM  and it will be televised live on Kolkata TV.
