MOHAMMEDAN SC WIN THIRD STRAIGHT PRE-SEASON GAME

KOLKATA:

A Ifham Tariq Mir winner helped Mohammedan Sporting Club to beat United Sports Club 1-0 in a Exhibition Match played at Ranaghat Stadium.

The Kashmiri forward scored five minutes from time which saw Mohammedan SC win their third straight pre-season game on Tuesday.

Mohammedan SC currently at Kalyani for a residential training camp, have already played a couple of pre-season games against Rainbow AC and Pathachakra Club.

Both teams got off to a blistering start but it was Mohammedan SC who dominated possession firing from every angle in search of the opener.

And their consistent raids upfront yielded some decent chances but the rival custodian stood between them and the opener as both sides went into the breather tied at goalless.

Changing over, the Black Panthers maintained control of the game with consistent raids, pushing their opponents into their half whilst United SC tried to contain the Black Panthers with occasional moves upfront but could not do much to threaten the Mohammedan SC back-line.

Manandeep Singh, Sheikh Faiaz and Dipendu Dowary came close to breaking the deadlock in the early minutes of the second period.

As the half progressed, more chances followed for the Biswajit Bhattacharya-coached side as Prohlad Roy horribly miscued an effort from just eight yards out, while Manandeep had a shot blocked.

The pressure paid off for Mohammedan SC in the 85th minute when Ifham cut inside from the right wing and slotted a right footer home.

Meanwhile, a minute of silence observed before kick-off in honour of the late Ashok Chakraborty, a renowned centre-back who played for Mohamedan Sporting Club, Mohun Bagan as well as Bengal State Team in 70s.
