KOLKATA: Netaji Subhash Institute held off a Mohammedan Sporting Club charge at Calcutta High Court Ground to win an exciting battle by 23 runs in CAB 1st Division (Two-Day) League on Wednesday.
When 430 was set as the target, not many gave Mohammedan Sporting a chance. And when they were reduced to 32/4, those chances went even down further. But Vikas Singh (173) and Tarun Godara (186) stitched a 303-run stand for the fifth wicket and that revived the hopes.
However, at a very crucial time, Rishabh Agarwal removed Vikas. Despite Vikas’ wicket, Tarun still kept Mohammedan Sporting’s hopes alive but the lack of support from the other end meant that Netaji Subhash Institute still won the game by 23 runs.
Netaji Subhash Institute posted a mammoth total of 429 on the day one. Dipanjan Mukherjee smashed 198 runs off 187 balls, which powered Netaji Subhash Insitute to a huge total. Efforts of Jantova Debnath, Rishabh and Ipu Saha also added to Netaji Subhash Institute’s score.
For Mohammedan Sporting, skipper Ompal Boken was the leading wicket-taker with five-wicket haul while Mohammed Nasim and Soumya Pakray each claimed a couple of wickets.
Brief scores: Netaji Subhash Institute 429/10 84.5 (Dipanjan Mukhrejee 198, Jantova Debnath 68; Ompal Boken 5/89)
Mohammedan Sporting Club 406/10 78.3 (Tarun Godara 186, Vikas Singh 173; Dipanjan Mukhrejee 3/61)
