MOHAMMEDAN SC LOOK TO SPOIL EAST BENGAL’S TITLE RACE

KOLKATA: Mohammedan Sporting Club look to dent a blow in East Bengal’s ambitions to secure eighth consecutive Calcutta Football League title when they lock horns on Saturday.

It was like a replay of the CFL match last season when Mohammedan SC and East Bengal battled it out for top honors in Kolkata football. However, the only difference this time around is that Mohammedan SC have fallen far behind in the championship race and pride will be the only thing at stake in Kalyani Stadium.

Nonetheless, Mohammedan SC Coach Biswajit Bhattacharya insists that his players will approach the match with the same intensity and hopes of resurrecting their campaign.

“We have to play with the same intensity. We are professionals. When we go on the pitch, we must respect the jersey, the fans and the honor of club. Our fate may have been sealed but we have to go out and do our best to win because that’s what we deserve,” Coach Bhattacharya said on the eve of the clash.

Currently on third position with 13 points from 7 matches, the Black Panthers coming into the tie with an emphatic 6-0 win over Railway FC in their last match and will be full of confidence at the prospect of upsetting East Bengal, who are on second with 18 points.

“It will be an enticing affair and the team which can handle the pressure better will be able to prevail. East Bengal are a very good side and they have shown how easily they can dominate teams. But we have shown that we are a team not to be taken lightly. We will go hard at them enforcing our own style of attacking flare,”  the gaffer added.

The match pits the league’s best attack against it’s best defense. Mohammedan SC have scored 23 goals this campaign while East Bengal have allowed only three.

However, their leaky defense will continue to be the main cause for worry for Coach Bhattacharya, who knows they will need to defend better against East Bengal if they are to contain the threat of Mahmoud Al Amna and Willis Plaza.

On the team news front, Coach Bhattacharya will have a full squad at his disposal with skipper Rana Gharami returning from a one-match suspension that caused him to miss the clash against Railway FC.

For the record, Mohammedan SC last defeated East Bengal in CFL on 10 August, 2014, since then East Bengal haven’t lost a single match in CFL and unbeaten in 34 straight matches, a streak that the Black Panthers will be eager to end.

The match at Kalyani Stadium kicks-off at 2:45 PM on Saturday and will be televised on Kolkata TV.

MOHAMEDAN SC ROUT RAILWAY FC 6-0

KOLKATA: Mohammedan Sporting Club hammered Railway FC 6-0 in the Calcutta Football League on Wednesday Barasat Stadium.

Aser Pierrick Dipanda Dicka (19th minute, 35th, 47th and 90+2nd) scored four with Manandeep Singh (26th) and Prohlad Roy (60th) also got on the score-sheet as Mohammedan SC register the biggest win this year’s competition.

Going into the game, Mohammedan SC coach Biswajit Bhattacharya made five changes to the side from the previous match against Mohun Bagan, as Harjinder Singh filled the gap for a suspended Rana Gharami while Kamran Farooque, Prohlad Roy, Satyam Sharma and Manandeep came at the expenses of Amit Chakraborty, Dipendu Dowary, Tirthankar Sarkar and Jiten Mumru respectively.

Mohammedan SC began the better of both sides, and after some half chances in the opening exchanges, they took the lead in the 19th minute. Dipanda capitalized on a poor clearance and smashed home a powerful right footer with Railway FC custodian Rana Chakraborty watching helplessly.

The Black Panthers doubled their lead seven minutes later when Diapnda sent Manandeep clear in the rival box. The former Kerala Blasters striker kept his calm and finished over an advanced keeper to make it 2-0.

Diapnda then got on the score-sheet again striking in the final quarter. The Cameroonian tapped home from close in the 35th minute after getting a pass from Shekh Faiaz.

Thereafter, Mohammedan SC continued to push up and create chances but but poor finishing in the final third meant the first half ended 3-0.

Mohammedan SC  virtually finished off the game two minutes after restart. Ankit Mukherjee curled in a great cross which wasn’t properly cleared and fell for Dipanda inside the box. The striker controlled the ball and smashed home the half volley to complete his second hat-trick of the league.

The scoring spree did not end there as Prohlad increased the lead further after striking home from close range in the 60th minute.

Meanwhile, Railway FC had a couple of good opportunities to reduce the margin but the visitors were unlucky and Mohammedan SC well at the back.

Mohammedan SC  didn’t take their foot off the accelerator and continued to dominate proceedings but had to wait till injury time to get their sixth when Dipanda head home to score his 10th goal of the competition.

The win took Mohammedan SC’s tally to 13 points from 7 games and they will face East Bengal next on Saturday at Kalyani.

MOHAMMEDAN SC PLAY FOR PRIDE AGAINST RAILWAY FC

KOLKATA: In less than 48 hours from the grueling Kolkata Derby against Mohun Bagan in Kalyani, Mohammedan Sporting Club is set to take the field in Calcutta Football League when they face Railway FC on Wednesday at Barasat.

Mohammedan SC is placed third, with 10 points from 6 matches, behind Mohun Bagan and East Bengal and with the title race looking set to be decided between the top two sides in the table, the Black Panthers will be keen to present a good account of itself in the remaining matches.

The Black Panthers head into the game on the back of a 2-1 defeat against Mohun Bagan and only a strange and highly unlikely set of results would see them finishing among the top teams in the table.

However, Mohammedan SC coach Biswajit Bhattacharya still believes there is plenty to play for and strictly advised his players to concentrate on the task at hand.

“I am happy about my team’s performance. Boys put up a brilliant performance in all the matches. We want to continue the good work in our remaining matches and finish the league on high,” coach Bhattacharya said.

Going into the match, Mohammedan SC will look to the likes of Aser Pierrick Dipanda Dicka, Jiten Murmu and Manvir Singh to inspire them to victory, though all three misfired against Mohun Bagan but coach Bhattacharya insists that the trio will be able to put the disappointment behind and prove themselves again.

Mohammedan SC has no noteworthy injury problems. However, coach Bhattacharya will have to make at least one change to his starting line-up, as skipper Rana Gharami is unavailable due to suspension, following his two yellow cards earlier in the league.

MOHAMMEDAN’S TITLE HOPES BURIED AFTER 2-1 LOSS TO MOHUN BAGAN

KOLKATA: Mohammedan Sporting Club’s title hopes in the ongoing Calcutta Football League buried following a 2-1 defeat against Mohun Bagan on Monday.

Mohun Bagan scored in each half through Azharuddin Mallick (38th minute and 90+1st) to make Shekh Faiaz’s opener (22nd) count little at Kalyani Stadium.

This was Mohun Bagan’s first win against Mohammedan SC in over four years. Interestingly, last time when Mohun Bagan beat Mohamedan SC that was also a CFL encounter which was played at Kalyani in March 2013.

Going into the match, Mohammedan SC coach Biswajit Bhattacharya made only one change to the side from the previous match by bringing in defender Amit Chakraborty — who started against Pathachakra Club in the opener — at the expense of Kamran Farooque.

The game began with both sides engaging in some end-to-end action during the opening quarter. Mohammedan SC distinctly had an upper hand with the chances they created early in the match. Mohun Bagan in the bargain did well but could not penetrate the Mohammedan SC defense.

Having gone close on a few occasions, the Black Panthers took the lead in the 22nd minute. A horrible misunderstanding between two Mohun Bagan defenders allowed the winger to slot from Dipanda Dicka’s pass.

Thereafter, Mohammedan SC continued to push up and create chances but lacked the finishing touch in the rival box. Meanwhile, at the other end, Mohun Bagan pulled level against the run of play with Azharuddin scoring from Bayi Kamo Stephane’s right sided pass in the 38th minute.

The goal stunned Mohammedan SC momentarily but they did not lose hope and kept on the pressure as the game dragged towards the end of first half. The Black Panthers had a chance through Jiten Murmu two minutes before half time but the striker was unlucky to see his effort go off target from close range as both sides went into the breather tied at 1-1.

The second half was a similar story to the first as Mohammedan SC continued to dominate proceedings. However, once again it was the lack of finishing that let them down.

Having created numerous half chances, the Black Panthers went extremely close midway through the half through Dipanda, whose attempt from inside the box was denied by Mohun Bagan custodian Shilton Paul after being set up by Dipendu Dowary in the 62nd minute.

In the final quarter, both sides engaged in an end-to-end battle, while Mohammedan SC had the better chances to take the lead, Mohun Bagan capitalized on a defensive error as Azharuddin head home the winner from Chesterpaul Lyngdoh’s cross.

Following the result, Mohammedan SC remained on third spot in the table with 10 points from 6 games while Mohun Bagan moved to the summit with 19 points from 7 games.

MOHAMMEDAN SC HELD BY CUSTOMS IN CFL

KOLKATA: Mohammedan Sporting Club failed to garner three vital points in their race to the Calcutta Football League title as Calcutta Customs held them for a 1-1 draw on Tuesday.

The Black Panthers took a first half lead through their Cameroonian ace Aser Pierrick Dipanda Dicka (45th minute) only for Dhiman Sinha to restore the parity for Customs in the 56th minute.

Going into the game, Mohammedan SC coach Biswajit Bhattacharya made the only change to the side that beat Peerless SC, by handing start to goalkeeper Sankar Roy in place of a sick Rashid Nalakath, while Manvir Singh, who recently came back from the National duty started at bench and came in as a 39th minute substitute.

The match at Barasat Stadium began with two minutes of silence observed in memory of the late club President Jb. Sultan Ahmed, who passed away yesterday.

Mohammedan SC exerted pressure right from the start while Customs took time to settle. Nevertheless, Customs had a clear look at the Mohammedan SC goal in the 19th minute as Ujjal Hauladar leaped high to meet Amit Roy’s cross but the former Mohun Bagan midfielder’s header moved over the cross bar.

The Black Panthers, on the other hand, were creating some fantastic openings but their attackers ran short of ideas on reaching the Customs territory.

Having created some half chances till the half hour mark, Mohammedan SC almost took the lead in the 31st minute when Dipanda found himself clear inside the box. The move began with medio Kalu Ogba finding winger Dipendu Dowary clear on the right who cut back outside the box to Dipanda. The striker beat his marker to get into the box but fired inches wide from close range.

The constant pressure by Mohammedan SC paid off as they finally broke the deadlock through Dipanda whose outrageous piece of skill provoked Customs defender John Ampong into committing a foul just outside the box and Dipanda made no mistake in slotting the ball from subsequent free-kick to give his side a 1-0 lead at half time.

The change of ends brought a change in fortune for Customs as Dhiman rifled home the rebound in the 56th minute after Sankar had denied Rajon Barman.

The goal inspired Customs to get even more offensive in their approach and they nearly took the lead in the 62nd minute when Sanchayan Samaddar failed to keep his header low after receiving a cross from Ujjal.

Mohammedan SC though created many chances but failed to regain the lead, as they failed to stick to their passing game policy. The players seemed to be more keen on playing direct football sending long balls from the centre-line.

The Black Panthers had a golden opportunity to surge ahead when Jiten Murmu got into a good position but he held the ball little too long to ultimately make a mess out of the situation.

Mohammedan SC battled hard towards the end looking for a winner, but Customs managed to hold on defending deep as the game ended 1-1.

MOHAMMEDAN SC READY FOR CUSTOMS TEST

KOLKATA: Mohammedan Sporting Club looks to extend their winning streak in the Calcutta Football League when they take on Calcutta Customs on Tuesday.

The Black Panthers came from behind to register a crucial 5-2 win over Peerless Sports Club in their last match and will be confident heading into the game at Barasat Stadium.

Mohammedan SC, who are currently on third place with 9 points from four games, has given a commendable performance so far slamming in 15 goals and will be eager to log their fourth straight win of the campaign for catching the table toppers to remain in title contention.

Customs, on the other hand, enduring a disappointing campaign so far, garnering a mere 2 points from 5 games and hanging dangerously in the relegation zone.

“The morale of the players is high and I am confident that they will play to win. We will try out best to record a win as we want to go forward. We are keen to be on the top and stay closer to the leader,” said Mohammedan SC Head Coach Biswajit Bhattacharya.

About Mohammedan SC’s opponents, coach Bhattacharya answered: “Customs will be a difficult team to beat as they are a very hardworking team. But I do not wish to look at the opponent and focus more on our own objective that is to win every match.”

Though coach Bhattacharya showing respect for Customs but determined to adopt a positive attacking approach and go all out for a win to grab three points on offer.

Mohammedan SC’s big signings like Aser Pierrick Dipanda Dicka and Jiten Murmu respectively has five and four goals each to their names, while Shekh Faiaz also figures in the goal scoring list with three goals. All the three combine well as was visible in the last match against Peerless Sports Club, and the return of Manvir Singh from National duty and Manandeep Singh from injury will sharpen the Mohammedan SC front-line even further.

However, goalkeeper Rashid Nalakath is going to miss the action due to illness which would see controversy’s favourite child Sankar Roy making a return to the playing XI.

The match in Barasat Stadium kicks off at 5:00 PM  and it will be televised live on Kolkata TV.

DIPANDA SCORE HAT-TRICK AS MOHAMMEDAN THRASH PEERLESS 5-2

KOLKATA: Mohammedan Sporting Club put in a stellar second-half performance to blank Peerless Sports Club 5-2 on Saturday. The win took Mohammedan SC’s tally to 9 points from 4 games.

The Black Panthers squandered a host of chances, looked shaky in defense and needed a special effort from Aser Pierrick Dipanda Dicka to come from behind and see off a Peerless side who played attractive football at Barasat Stadium.

Going into the game, coach Biswajit Bhattacharya named an unchanged side for the third straight game with goalkeeper Sankar Roy making a return to the match day squad.

The Black Panthers began the better of both sides and orchestrated many moves but missed goal scoring opportunities whenever they approached Peerless’ final third.

While Mohammedan SC pressed high up, opponents Peerless managed to take the lead against the run of the play at the other end. Sukhwinder Singh capitalized on a defensive error to beat Mohammedan SC custodian Rashid Nalakath from Rahim Nabi’s pass in the 18th minute.

Having conceded, Mohammedan SC began attacking with intensity through Dipanda, Jiten Mumru, Dipendu Dowary and Shekh Faiaz, but rivals Peerless managed to hold on defending deep as the first half ended 1-0.

Needing a goal, Mohammedan SC came out all guns blazing in the second half as they attacked by pushing high up. The pressure paid off as the Black Panthers finally restored the parity six minutes into the session. Dowary held off a defender on the left flank and floated in a cross to the far post finding Jiten to head past Peerless keeper Surjay Pariyar.

The Black Panthers stepped up the tempo after the goal and attacked the rival goal ferociously going close on a few occasions.

Mohammedan SC’s pressure yielded another goal seven minutes later when Dipanda got on the score-sheet from Dowary’s pass to put the Black Panthers into the lead.

Mohammedan SC, thereafter, continued to dominate the proceedings and added their third through Dipanda in the 69th minute.

Meanwhile, on a few occasions Peerless created anxious moments for the Mohammedan SC defense marshaled around skipper Rana Gharami, but they lacked the cutting edge to stage a comeback.

With Mohammedan SC cruising, the confidence of the players understandably soared and Dowary made it four in the 80th minute from Faiaz’s pass.

However, Peerless kept fighting an uphill battle and were rewarded for their efforts when their Nigerian striker Francis Oneyama pulled a goal back in the very last minute of the regulation time.

However, just when the game appeared to be ending with the scoreline unchanged, Dipanda headed home off a Jiten Mumru cross in injury time to complete his first hat-trick in Kolkata.

BLACK PANTHERS REDAY FOR ‘WOUNDED’ PEERLESS

KOLKATA: Mohammedan Sporting Club are hoping that their strong attack will be enough to register their third successive win in the Calcutta Premier Division – A as they face Peerless Sports Club at Barasat Stadium.

The Black Panthers have 6 points from 3 games and coach Biswajit Bhattacharya feels it’s important to maintain consistency as matches come thick and fast.

There will not be any easy games in CFL as the difference between all teams is minimal. With two victories under his belt, coach Bhattacharya will be bristling with confidence but knows that Peerless SC can provide them with the toughest challenge so far.

“It will be an important match for us. We won successive matches but we have to lie low and think nothing happened. We just have to focus on the next match and continue to do our best in the future. In such a league, you have to stay alert. There is not much time to celebrate or cry. You have to be competitive always,” said coach Bhattacharya.

Peerless SC started with a flourish winning their first two matches but were grounded by East Bengal in the last match. The Black Panthers will start as favourites against a wounded Peerless SC, although the gaffer looked at the situation differently.

“Now obviously it’s a difficult moment for Peerless because they lost their last match against a good opposition. But they are more than capable of a comeback. We have to be cautious against them and remain solid and compact,” he added.

Interestingly, Peerless SC has as many seven players in the their side who plied there trade in Mohammedan SC last season, and their coach Tope Ayodeji Fuja, who himself coached the Black Panthers twice in the past, will be hoping them to fire against their former employer.

Going into the game, coach Bhattacharya feels no need to change a winning combination, especially after a convincing 3-0 win against Southern Samity. The team looked incredibly good in their last two fixtures but coach Bhattacharya is keeping his feet firmly on the ground.

The last time when these two teams faced off in CFL, the match ended goalless despite Mohammedan SC dominated proceedings for the majority of the match. Thus, the Black Panthers keen to make amends in their next meeting on Saturday.

A win for Mohammedan SC will ensure they are within close distance of the first two teams while Peerless SC also have a chance to be among the top three teams should they pull of the upset against a side, who they last defeated in 2004.

The match in Barasat Stadium kicks off at 6.30 PM  and it will be televised live on Kolkata TV.

MOHAMMEDAN-PEERLESS CFL MATCH SHIFTED TO BARASAT FROM KALYANI

KOLKATA: Mohammedan Sporting Club’s fourth 2017/18 Calcutta Premier Division – A fixture against Peerless Sports Club which is scheduled on Saturday 26 August 2017, has been switched from Kalyani to Barasat Stadium, after the Club has requested the Indian Football Association.

Earlier this week, the Club sent a letter to IFA that had requested a change in venue from Kalyani to Barasat for comfort of the fans, as it gets very difficult and tiring for most of them to travel 60 kilometers from Kolkata to watch the match.

“We thank the Indian Football Association for their cooperation and all other parties involved for their cooperation and assistance in organizing the match at Barasat. We look forward to seeing big crowds flock to Barasat for what is set to be a fantastic game of football,” club official Mr. Belal Ahmed Khan said.

The Black Panthers has enjoyed large crowd support at Barasat in both games played there, and the third game is certain not to disappoint.

The Calcutta Premier Division – A match between Mohammedan Sporting Club and Peerless Sports Club will kick off at 6:30 PM on Saturday.

MOHAMMEDAN SC EASE PAST SOUTHERN SAMITY

KOLKATA: Mohammedan Sporting Club eased past Southern Samity 3-0 to register their second win in the Calcutta Premier Division – A on Sunday at Barasat Stadium.

Winger Sheikh Faiaz (21st and 56th minute) scored in either halves before striker Jiten Murmu (90th) found the target late in the game to complete yet another convincing win for the Black Panthers which took their tally to 6 points from 3 games.

Going into the game, the Black Panthers coach Biswajit Bhattacharya fielded an unchanged side from the previous match.

Mohammedan SC jumped into a great start and orchestrated many moves but missed goal-scoring opportunities whenever they approached Southern Samity’s final third in the opening quarter.

Having missed a host of chances till the 20th minute mark, Mohammedan SC finally broke the deadlock after some good team work. A switch in play from left-to-right saw Dipanda Dicka find Jiten who cut back to Faiaz inside the box and the winger delivered a cool finish to set the tone for the game.

The goal gave Mohammedan SC a much needed boost as they pushed ahead in numbers and created a host of chances only to lack the killer finish in the final third.

In the closing moments of the half, Dipanda had a chance to double the lead, but he hammered his effort wide as the first half ended 1-0.

Mohammedan SC began the second half brightly like they did the first, with a goal beckoning with every move and after 11 minutes of play, Faiaz consolidated Mohammedan SC’s lead. Dipendu Dowary away from two defenders on the right flank, picked out Faiaz to head past Southern Samity keeper Sheikh Moidul Islam from close range.

Thereafter, Mohammedan SC continued to dominate the proceedings but had to wait till the last minute of the regulation time to get their third. Mumtaz Akhtar with a brilliant run got past his marker and laid the ball for Prohlad Roy who set up Jiten to slot home.
