KOLKATA: Mohammedan Sporting Club thrash Birbhum Nobles 6-0 in their last Group A match of the ongoing Zee Bangla Football League on Saturday at Mohun Bagan Ground.
The big win was powered by a hat-trick from Sanjib Ghosh (7′, 15′ & 23′) along with goals from Suraj Rajbanshi (1′), Surajuddin Munshi (11′) and Ajgar Ali Sardar (34′).
Two goals in the opening 10 minutes and another three before half-time made it a very easy afternoon for Mohammedan against a Birbhum side that put up little resistance and offered very little threat in attack.
Mohammedan started the game like a house on fire and it was not a surprise as Suraj opened the scoring with a well taken goal in the very first minute.
Having suffered a early jolt, Birbhum were looking shell-shocked and were 2-0 down after 7 minutes when Sanjib scored form inside the box.
The rampant Young Panthers added their third in the 11th minute, Surajuddin in the right place to stab the ball into the net after Sanjib’s cross had ricocheted around the box.
It was 4-0 four minutes later when Sanjib grabbed his second of the afternoon after slotting home a left wing cross from Sovan Sen.
Sanjib, who was enjoying a fine outing, completed his hat-trick in the 23rd minute. The pass came in from Uttam Mitra for Sanjib who produced a good strike from the edge of the area to find the left hand side of goal.
Mohammedan continued to dominate proceedings in the second-half and made it 6-0 though Ajgar in the 34th minute.
Thereafter, Mohammedan SC took their foot of the pedal, although maintained a total control.
Birbhum, on the other hand, had a couple of good opportunities to reduce the margin but they were unlucky and Mohammedan well at the back.
Mohammedan finished their Group league campaign with 9 points from 4 matches, however, could not made it to the knockout stages.
