KOLKATA: Mohammedan Sporting Club posted a comprehensive win over Dalhousie Athletic Club in their opening match of the CAB First Division One Day Tournament on Saturday. Chasing an imposing target of 325 runs, Dalhousie were all out for 97 in 21.5 overs at Deshbandhu Park In Kolkata.
Electing to field, Dalhousie got an early breakthrough as seamer Prince packed off Deepak Punia for a duck. Vikas Singh hit a brisk half-century. Accompanied by Bazlur Rahman, he built a 95-run partnership to prop up the Mohammedan innings.
Bazlur and Ompal Boken kept the run rate ticking with regular hits to the boundary. Pankaj Kumar Singh struck back to remove Bazlur after the batsman hit 77 runs off 111 balls which included eight boundaries and two sixes. Ompal smashed unbeaten 101 runs off just 38 balls which included three boundaries and eleven sixes. Prince was the leading wicket-taker with two wickets.
Chasing a mammoth 325 run target, Dalhousie kept losing wickets at regular intervals and only managed to score 97 runs before getting bowled out in just 21.5 overs. Deepak Punia was the pick of the bowlers for Mohammedan as he claimed 6 wickets for 34 runs. Harshit Kaushik got two wickets while Nitin Verma and Soumya Pakrey claimed one wicket apiece.
