We Need To Deliver For The Fans – Dipendu Biswas

KOLKATA: Mohammedan Sporting Club Technical Director Dipendu Biswas believes Black Panthers has the character to hold their own against Mohun Bagan in a must-win Calcutta Premier Division ‘A’ tie on Thursday at Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan.

“Playing against the biggest sides in the competition is always exciting because that’s where players really get the opportunity to test themselves individually and as a collective,” Biswas said.

The former India skipper has also acknowledged Mohun Bagan’s stature. “Mohun Bagan are a huge team, and we respect them,” Biswas adds.

“The game against Mohun Bagan is a determining factor to our future in the league and we are aware of what is expected of us. They are a very good team and you have to be in your best form when you play against them. In high-profile matches like these‚ it is about who wants it more and we must be motivated enough to deal with whatever they are going to throw at us. We need to deliver for the fans. Games like this build character,” he continued.

Biswas has downplayed suggestions that the Black Panthers will be out to seek revenge against Mohun Bagan. The Mariners beat Mohammedan in their Durand Cup clash last month, yet Biswas insists that the Black Panthers have gotten over that disappointment and does not want to look at what happened in past.

“There is no sense of revenge. They won in Durand Cup and we can do nothing about that. We have got no complaints with the result, they deserved it. That chapter is closed. This is a new game. We are not motivated by grudges but are inspired by a desire to improve and do better,” Biswas concluded.

Mohun Bagan are unbeaten in their last three matches against Mohammedan, who will be looking to break that record.

History shows that Mohun Bagan have dominated this encounter since 2017 as the last time Mohammedan beat Mohun Bagan in 2016 courtesy Leonce Dodoz’s solitary goal.
