KOLKATA: Mohammedan Sporting Club will hope that the loss against Bhawanipore FC is water under the bridge when facing BSS Sporting Club in Calcutta Premier Division ‘A’ at Mohammedan Sporting Ground on Saturday, kick-off 2:30 PM.
The Black Panthers saw their unbeaten run cut short to six games when they were beaten 3-0 by Bhawanipore in their midweek clash.
Tactically Mohammedan SC looked poorer with defenders were exposed and looked incredibly vulnerable. There was no intensity in their play, they kept playing long balls, losing possession cheaply and failed to find the penetration needed to threaten the rival goal, resulting in their worst defeat in Calcutta Premier Division since 2013.
Despite his disappointment with the result Mohammedan SC coach Saheed Sunkanmi Ramon remains confident that his team will bounce back from their poor performance.
“The previous game was an eye opener for the team. The players have put the disappointment behind and fully focused on the upcoming game against BSS. Looking at the team and their commitment at training, I am confident we will do well,” Ramon said.
Hira Mondal, Sheikh Azaruddin, Arijit Singh, Mohammed Amirul and Priyant Singh are confirmed out of contention for places for this fixture.
“We have several players out due to a variety of injuries,” confirmed the Nigerian mentor. “It is not much of an issue for us, though. We have other players capable and available to do the job for us. It is a matter of selecting the best combination for what we want to achieve.”
Mohammedan SC currently occupies sixth position on the league table with 10 points from 7 matches. “We are aware of the log situation,” commented the coach, before adding, “We prepare to win every match that we play.”
“BSS are a good team,” Ramon pointed out. “They have some enterprising players, but at the end of the day we want to win and collect the three points. It won’t be easy, but we are ready to win this one.”
